The week started with a closely fought fixture with Nursery Hill with our under 11 boys just missing out losing 1-0. Commendable performances from Harry Wilkins and Jordan Kirkbride in goal. The latter saving a well hit penalty in the second half. Congratulations to all of the boys who contributed to the fixture.
This week has been extremely busy with Chinese New Year celebrations and food on thursday with a non uniform day on friday supporting two of our parents competing in the London Marathon later next month. Nursery have similarly enjoyed a busy week with a trip to a local superstore to explore chinese foods and fire engines arriving to talk to the children and to discuss fire safety.
As the term rushes on by the children have been in excellent form over the last two weeks. This period sees the successful introduction of Ballet and dram for our Year One and two children who are currently exploring this new area of the Physical Education curriculum. We enjoyed a fantastic assembly production by Mrs Crossley and her Year 5 students on a spelling and punctuation theme. The girls have enjoyed further fixtures in the netball programme and the older junior children will be competing in the Nuneaton Rugby Club tag tournament later this week.
I would like to wish the Year Six children, parents and Teachers a well earned rest over the half term as this will be one of their few opportunities to rest their brains during a holiday period since leaving year Five. Results are slowly filtering into the school and i hope that all of our children are able to achieve their goals through considerable hard work over the last few years at Milverton House.
Final preparations for the PGL trips are currently being made and children should have returned home with kit lists and medical letters to be completed over the break. We look forward to a safe trip later in March.
World Book Week
We shall be supporting 'World Book Week' from 1st March - 5th March with themed activities during the week including character days for all classes participating. Children will be given book vouchers to utilise at book shops throughout this event.
School Inspection
The school has evolved considerably since our last inspection in 2005 and the inspection team were delighted by the standards expected by the school. Mrs Harker commented upon the excellent behaviour of the children and the welcoming feel to the school.
Milverton House provides a good standard of education for its pupils, both in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and throughout the school. Provision for pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstanding and behaviour is excellent. Pupils enjoy coming to school very much and most parents hold the school in high regard. The school meets all the requirements for registration. HMI 2008
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Senior management team for their support prior to and following the inspection and to all of the teachers and staff who performed so professionally. Secondly I would like to thank all of the children for their efforts during the inspection including the School Council and Heads of school who spoke so confidently during their interviews.
The school has benefitted from three Outstanding judgments within this inspection and all other areas of the inspection were deemed as Good. I am especially delighted by the improvements promoted by Mrs Masters, Miss Denton and their assistants in the new Pre Prep and Entry environments.
As a result of the good progress children make from their starting points on entry to school, most of them reach standards that are at or above the levels expected by the end of the EYFS. Children achieve well across all areas of learning, although their performance is stronger in creative development and literacy. Parents rightly feel that their children settle quickly into the pre-preparatory class, this is because the staff are caring and have established clear routines and expectations. As a result, children learn to behave well and ensure others’ and their own safety. The strong focus on their personal development effectively contributes to good relationships and children’s self-confidence as learners. The personal development and well-being of the children in the EYFS is outstanding HMI 2008
I look forward to meeting with Nursery parents who would like to bring their children into our Pre Prep and Entry classrooms and places are currently being secured for September 2010.
School Uniform
Having considered various sources for school uniform a variety of web sites have proved useful for items of our current uniform. www.Schooluniform247.co.uk stock school tights which can be delivered directly to home addresses. The royal blue tights are identical to the tights sold by the School Wear centre. Boys shirts and trousers are similarly available from this site. The school wear centre is due to launch a Milverton Shopping site in January 2009 and a link to this site will be established once this service is active. This should allow parents to order uniform to be delivered to their door through an internet shopping facility. |
