I am delighted by this set of results that our children have worked so hard to achieve. Their achievements are also as a result of the hard work that all class teachers have put in throughout the school. (A few results are still to be received from Rugby schools however they do not publish their results until March) The teachers and children must be congratulated on their fantastic effort once again showing how well our children can perform in examinations. The Year six children are now being treated to their minority sports programme which runs throughout this half term and they will be skiing, bowling, climbing and abseiling, to name a few activities, in the run up to the Easter break.
Bubble Rap - Health and safety for Infants began on Tuesday and has been well received by both the staff and children. Hopefully these sessions make the children more aware of how they play and move around the school and how to be as safe as possible.
Festival Of Arts - Once again we will be entering the Festival at all age groups and looking to improve on the haul of trophies that we have won over the previous years. Children will be bringing home copies of their poems and readings which they will need to learn to recite from memory. Class teachers and Mrs Vardy will then be able to listen and help the children to polish their recitals for the Festival week in May. Letters will be sent via class teachers to confirm entries.
School Transport - Many thanks to all those who returned the forms regarding school transport. However the uptake of this offer proved too varied and at the current time a school bus has not been set up. I would like to pursue this and try to form a service from Burbage to school in the mornings and would like to hear from any parents who would like to utilise this facility. However if the demand is not high enough the school bus proposal may have to be reconsidered.
Web Site - I have asked all teachers to pass information on to Mrs Gray so that the school web site can evolve from its current state. I am delighted that some of the children have put match reports and trip reports onto the school site. The inclusion of Mr Hjelvik's movie club also adds to the creativity of this site. New information is always being added to the site, which can be found at milvertonschool.com
Open Morning - The school open morning will be held on Saturday 17 th March 9.30 - 12.00 and many of the children will be asked to support this morning in activity groups, class based sessions and musical ensembles throughout the morning. Class teachers will be sending letters to ask for support for this event. I would also be delighted to see new parents in school for the open morning, which always proves a fun morning.
Macmillan Cancer Support - Thank you to all who donated to this event and the school and nursery managed to raise £688 , which will be passed on to Bernadette on Friday 23 rd February in the school assembly.
Buddy Benches - The PTA have kindly purchased two buddy benches for the school playgrounds. These are double-sided benches where children can go and sit and chat to their friends or sit and rest during their busy playtimes. Many thanks to the PTA. Next meeting will be on Thursday 23 rd at 8pm at the main school site.
