Due to popular demand we have been able to create a small number of places in our Pre School and Reception classes from September 2017. Parents wishing to enquire about positions should contact the school office on 02476 641722.
Pre prep is available to children from the age of three years. Many children start school life at the Main school site in the September following their third birthday. Children join a formal classroom environment which is designed and supervised by childcare specialists. Our Pre School lead teacher designs a timetable to suit the needs of her children and allows for all to be equally challenged by starting school curriculum as the children become ready.
The timetable offers the children a full curriculum including French, Drama, Music, and PE, IT which are all taught by specialist subject teachers.
Learning at Pre-Prep will be seen by most children as fun and play. But as they get to grips with listening, speaking, singing, stories and counting, they will be gaining all the basic skills that will get them off to a flying start.
The staff at Pre-School carefully plan the children's activities within six broad areas of learning, briefly summarised below:
Children are encouraged to socialise generally with classmates immaterial of race, gender and disability. All members of staff throughout the Pre-Prep year encourage a whole school ethos of caring and sharing.
Reading and writing skills are introduced within Pre Prep and many children complete early reading expectations and commence on Reception age books head of time.
As some children turn three during the school year, we are able to offer a three term intake meaning that children may commence at Milverton at Christmas and Easter following their third birthday.
The main aims of Pre-Prep are:
The Pre-Prep department joins the main school at all times of the Summer Concerts, Christmas Carol Services, Sports Day and so on and all Pre-Prep children attend the main Preparatory School building for music and some aspects of Physical Education. Swimming lessons take place at the Pingles Leisure Centre. In general the Pre-Prep department provides a base of excellence in every aspect of an early year’s education and allows the children to be as well prepared as possible for entry into the main Preparatory School.
